Rangers and Guides Annual Camp 2014

On the 28th and 29th of May 2014, the 1st, 2nd, 31st Coy and 12th Unit Rangers had their annual camp. The campers arrived at school by 7.30 in the morning and were registered by the committees on duty at the counter outside of 3 Heron. After the registration, the campers lined up according to their respective groups and were briefed on the rules they should follow throughout the camping by the camp commander, Chong Jia Yu.

Then, the campers moved to the upper hall with all their bags. We began with our first activity which was ice breaking. The campers took this opportunity to get to know their team members. Hosted by Nur Fatini, the members had a great time during the ice breaking session. In the first activity, the members had to do actions of kung fu according to the instructions given by Fatini. The second activity was mirror, where members in pairs have to reflect each other's action as instructed by the host. In the third activity, members got to write about the other members on the paper behind their shirts without writing their names. In the end, the members can see their own papers and read what others wrote about them. All the members enjoyed themselves during the ice breaking session.

After the activities, all the groups were given time to come up with a group name and their cheer. At 9.30 a.m. the photo hunt began. In this game, the groups were given a list of  photos of part of specific places. All the groups had to find for those places and capture the whole part of it in a given time. Some of the groups managed to find all the places while some couldn't find one or two places but one thing for sure, all the members had worked together and be observant in this game.

Then, the campers had their marching practice. At 12, all of us had our lunch in the school canteen. After lunch, everyone was led to the "Upper hall" for the advertising competition. Encouraging all participants to be as silly and creative as possible, this event was one of the most anticipated events.

Next, we had team building activities where team work played a great deal in succeeding in the activities. There were 6 stations in total and after the tiring activities, it was tea time where we were given tea and banana cakes. As it started to rain, we couldn't proceed with the mini sports and it had to be postponed to the next day.

At night, after having a sumptuous barbecue dinner, the campers were afforded rehearsal time to practice their synchronization and their formation. The marching competition was then held in the Open Hall. The judges deliberated and commented on the marchers, especially their basic grasp of marching. Next the campers had their annual event which was the "Sarong Night". The groups were given choices either to perform a drama or to dance. Decked in colorful "sarongs", all the groups managed to give hilarious performances.

Once this event ended, all the members were served with a light supper before being blindfolded for "Believe Me or Not". led by the group leader, the members had to put their faith in the group leader as she navigated them along the obstacles to each of the stations so that the tasks could be completed. The next day 29th of May, we started with some light aerobic session led by all Coy leaders.

After having breakfast, everyone was led to the field for the next activity which was relay game. There were also six stations in this game. All the games held were really interesting and all the members had fun.

After the relay games, mini sports was held. Combining challenging and fun activities, each camper strove to emerge as the champion and gave each sport their all.

Then, it was the cooking competition. With styles that rivaled Master Chef's contestants, the participants started to show their culinary skills. Once the food had been dished out and tested by the judges, they proceeded to scarf down the food. Then, a final clean-up session was held before the prize giving ceremony commenced in the Upper Hall. The winner for this year was...Group 1. Priyadharishyini was chosen as the most supportive participant. The camp ended at 4.30 in the evening. With the great support of the teachers, committees and the campers, this camp had been a great success and we hope to organize camps like this in the coming years.
