Meeting (15/6/2013)

The meeting was called to order by the president at 8 a.m.. After Han Kah Wei, the secretary of 12th Unit Rangers had finished taking the attendance, the rangers divided themselves into 4 groups. They then proceeded to the backwoodsman area. Once the briefing was given, the rangers started their activity, backwoodsman cooking. During this meeting, rangers were thought how to cook using the “backwoodsman” style, a traditional method without being afforded any of the luxuries we take for granted nowadays. We would like to thank Vivian, our ex-assistant unit leader for granting us so much of her time to teach and guide us during the activity.

The seniors thought us the secret to successful backwoods cooking is to build a good fire that will provide hot embers, for it is on embers that we cook, not flames. The rangers dug a pit and lighted a fire in the bottom of the pit. It was a frustrating task as the embers became cool after a short while. Nevertheless, rangers never gave up. With the guidance of some seniors and unbroken spirit, the rangers had finally succeeded in lighting up the fire. While some rangers were struggling in lighting up the fire, others helped in making 'roti lilit'.  We cleaned up the area after we were finished and disposed all food scraps carefully.
