Once the cleanliness of the camp site had been
ensured, we started our first activity, icebreaking. In their earlier groups
that compromised of a mixture of rangers and girl guides, they had to come up
with a cheer, a group name and a logo by making a collage with beans.
Each
group started discussing about their performance on one of our annual events,
“Sarong Night”. The theme of this year was “Happy Family”. After a short
marching rehearsal, each group proceeded to eat dinner in the school canteen.
At 9, the sarong night started. Hosted by Fatini and Vinneesyah, this event was
a sight to behold. Decked in colorful “sarongs”, all the participants
confidently strutted down the runway.
Once this event ended, all the members
were served with a light suffer before being blindfolded for “Believe Me or
Not”. Led by the group leader, the members had to put their faith in the group
leaders as she navigated them along the obstacles to each of the stations so
that the tasks could be completed.
On Saturday, the 13th of April, we started with a
light aerobic session led by all the Coy Leaders.
After eating breakfast,
everyone was led to the “Upper Hall” for the advertising competition.
Encouraging all participants to be as silly and creative as possible, this
event was one of the most anticipated events.
At 9, 5 ACS scouts arrived to
guide us in making knots and gadgets. Using the knots they had just learnt,
each group was then given 3 hours to build a gadget.
After lunch, a short
marching rehearsal was held before the campers were thought how to cook using
the “backswoodsman” style, a traditional method without being afforded any of
the luxuries we take for granted nowadays.
At 5, the mini sports was held.
Combining challenging and fun activities, each camper strove to emerge as the
champion and gave each sport their all. At night, after having a sumptuous
barbecue dinner, the campers had ShowTime, quiz and played jigsaw puzzles. They
had a lot of fun. At 2 in the morning, an emergency drill was held.
On Sunday, the 14th of April, it started with
another aerobic session. After breakfast, the campers were afforded rehearsal
time to practice their synchronization and their formation. At 8, the marching competition
was held in the Open Hall. The judges deliberated and commented on the
marchers, especially their basic grasp of marching.
Then, the Kim’s Games was
held. Using substances that tested the memory, sense of sight, smell and taste
of the campers, each camper was asked to jot down the correct answers in a
group.
Then, it was the cooking competition. With styles that rivaled Master Chef’s
contestants, the participants started to show their culinary skills. Once the
food had been dished out and tested by the judges, they proceeded to scarf down
the food. Then, a final clean-up session was held before the prize-giving
ceremony commenced in the Upper Hall. The winners for this year was…..Group 6.
Wong Ming Huey was chosen as the most supportive participant. The camp ended at
3.30 in the afternoon.
