Rangers and Guides Annual Camp 2014

On the 28th and 29th of May 2014, the 1st, 2nd, 31st Coy and 12th Unit Rangers had their annual camp. The campers arrived at school by 7.30 in the morning and were registered by the committees on duty at the counter outside of 3 Heron. After the registration, the campers lined up according to their respective groups and were briefed on the rules they should follow throughout the camping by the camp commander, Chong Jia Yu.

Then, the campers moved to the upper hall with all their bags. We began with our first activity which was ice breaking. The campers took this opportunity to get to know their team members. Hosted by Nur Fatini, the members had a great time during the ice breaking session. In the first activity, the members had to do actions of kung fu according to the instructions given by Fatini. The second activity was mirror, where members in pairs have to reflect each other's action as instructed by the host. In the third activity, members got to write about the other members on the paper behind their shirts without writing their names. In the end, the members can see their own papers and read what others wrote about them. All the members enjoyed themselves during the ice breaking session.

After the activities, all the groups were given time to come up with a group name and their cheer. At 9.30 a.m. the photo hunt began. In this game, the groups were given a list of  photos of part of specific places. All the groups had to find for those places and capture the whole part of it in a given time. Some of the groups managed to find all the places while some couldn't find one or two places but one thing for sure, all the members had worked together and be observant in this game.

Then, the campers had their marching practice. At 12, all of us had our lunch in the school canteen. After lunch, everyone was led to the "Upper hall" for the advertising competition. Encouraging all participants to be as silly and creative as possible, this event was one of the most anticipated events.

Next, we had team building activities where team work played a great deal in succeeding in the activities. There were 6 stations in total and after the tiring activities, it was tea time where we were given tea and banana cakes. As it started to rain, we couldn't proceed with the mini sports and it had to be postponed to the next day.

At night, after having a sumptuous barbecue dinner, the campers were afforded rehearsal time to practice their synchronization and their formation. The marching competition was then held in the Open Hall. The judges deliberated and commented on the marchers, especially their basic grasp of marching. Next the campers had their annual event which was the "Sarong Night". The groups were given choices either to perform a drama or to dance. Decked in colorful "sarongs", all the groups managed to give hilarious performances.

Once this event ended, all the members were served with a light supper before being blindfolded for "Believe Me or Not". led by the group leader, the members had to put their faith in the group leader as she navigated them along the obstacles to each of the stations so that the tasks could be completed. The next day 29th of May, we started with some light aerobic session led by all Coy leaders.

After having breakfast, everyone was led to the field for the next activity which was relay game. There were also six stations in this game. All the games held were really interesting and all the members had fun.

After the relay games, mini sports was held. Combining challenging and fun activities, each camper strove to emerge as the champion and gave each sport their all.

Then, it was the cooking competition. With styles that rivaled Master Chef's contestants, the participants started to show their culinary skills. Once the food had been dished out and tested by the judges, they proceeded to scarf down the food. Then, a final clean-up session was held before the prize giving ceremony commenced in the Upper Hall. The winner for this year was...Group 1. Priyadharishyini was chosen as the most supportive participant. The camp ended at 4.30 in the evening. With the great support of the teachers, committees and the campers, this camp had been a great success and we hope to organize camps like this in the coming years.

Meeting-22/02/14 Thinking Day Celebration

On the 22nd of February, our unit celebrated Thinking Day.Each year on 22 February, Girl Guides and Girl Scouts all over the world celebrate World Thinking Day. World Thinking Day has always been a very special day when we think of each other and give thanks and appreciation to our sister Girl Guides and Girl Scouts for the international friendship found in the Movement. It is a day when we think about our ''sisters and brothers'' in the biosphere, the meaning of Guiding and its global impact. This day is chosen as the Thinking Day because coincidentally the 22nd of February is also a birthday of Sir Robert Louis Stevenson Baden Powell, founder of Scout and Guide Movement and his wife Lady Olave Baden Powell, World Chief Guide. An important international issue is selected as the theme of the year's Thinking Day.The theme selected by World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts for this year is Millennium Development Goals. This year’s focus is on Millennium Development Goal 2: achieve universal primary education. Girls and young women everywhere deserve to have access to education and it is essential in order for all girls to develop their full potential.

The celebration began with a horseshoe formation. After saluting the Girl Guide's flag and reading out the 'undang-undang Pandu Puteri', we lit up our candles and the song for Thinking Day entitled 'This Little Guiding Light of Mine' was sung .

After that, we all gathered under the rain tree and our ass. unit leader Chong Jia Yu read the message from the  World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts (WAGGGS). Then, donations were collected for the Thinking Day for charity purposes. We had a little game before the celebration ended and everyone had fun. We also enjoyed a light refreshment prepared in the school canteen before the meeting adjourned at 11.a.m.

Meeting (15/2/14)

The meeting was called to order by the President at 10.30 a.m. The activities we had on that day were team building activities. The meeting started with a briefing on the games that were going to be played. Then the members were divided into 2 groups. The first game was 'balloon bursting game'. In this game, each group has to appoint one of the members to be the king who will be given a balloon. Each group has to get to the other group's king and burst the balloon. The rest of the members acting as soldiers have to prevent the opponent group from reaching their king.

The second game carried out was 'newspaper game'. In this game, the members still in groups of two are required to form pairs among members of their own groups. At the previous station, the legs of each members are tied to the legs of their partner's. They then have to walk to the next station where each pairs had to squash newspapers into balls by only using one hand. They have to throw the newspaper ball into a pail kept distance away. If the pairs couldn't manage to throw the ball into the pail upon 5 times trying, they have to repeat the game in the next station twice.

In the next game, both members in each pair have to bring a ping pong ball each using a spoon to the next station. If the ping poll ball drops, they have to repeat this game.

Upon reaching the next station, the members have to find a person who is hiding to receive their next clue. They are given clue on the appearance of the person they have to look for. Once they manage to find the person, they are quizzed on the history of guides and ranjers. Thay can only proceed to the next station if they manage to answer them.

The last game was ' chair arranging game'. A number of chairs are arranged in a particular pattern. The members are required to rearrange the chairs in the same pattern but facing the opposite side. Once they successfully rearrange the chairs, they gathered and ended the meeting with their usual horseshoe formation. Throughout the meeting and games, all the members showed great team spirit. Everyone worked together as a team and they definitely achieved this team building activities' objective. The meeting ended at 12.30 p.m.
